Fresh Ink: Ashanti Marshall’s Dark Matter, defined

Dark Matter, defined

Constellations punctuate the(e)
beginning and ending of a whole world –
too nighttime sky to know
the light isnestled in her
nurtured by her
necessary, by her
The awakening is within –
how layered we become
fend off
artificial representation masquerading as fluorescence.Constellations punctuate the beginning and ending of a whole world, but:
they tell her she’s never known stars.

Ashanti Marshall is a poet, peace maker and soul shaker. A black, queer, femme thought-force from the southside of Chicago, Marshall is the twenty-something facilitating inqueery at Black Ampersand. A bibliophile and slow-jams enthusiast actively queering the narrative and dropping gems, her voice offers an unapologetic existence and her world will make you believe, in both her and yourself.
